Spring Begins at Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) Palace

Spring is an amazing time in Seoul. The cherry blossoms start blooming, couples are out walking, the weather is beginning to warm up. Perfect time to go to Gyeongbokgung Palace for a little stroll. It was a bit rainier and colder than when I went last year, and there were more people since it was later in the season. I could say all kinds of things about the palace, but why give a history lesson when Wikipedia can do it for me!

My favorite thing about the palace was wandering away from the more popular areas and walking through the maze of corredors in back areas and finding interesting and unique doors, building embelishments, plants. When you aren't surrounded by people and the din of the crowd fades away, it is easy to imagine yourself in the time of the Joseon dynasty. I recommend finding one of these secluded spots and just siting down for a while.

This is also an amazing example of the mesh of historical and modern architecture, with some views including a mountainous backdrop.

I am hoping to return to Gyeongbokgung to experience it during a different season, as well as visit the museums that reside within it. I have no doubt that it is just as beautiful and historically breathtaking any time of year.

Please enjoy these many picture of a beautiful and historical area that I recommend every tourist, traveler, and expat in Seoul take the time to visit.
